A Bumper Harvest of Wonderful Things to See in London’s Art World
Some of the greats have new exhibitions in our capital: Constable at the V&A until the New Year, Anselm Kiefer at the RA until Dec 14, Late Turner at Tate Britain until Jan 25. Also at Tate Britain you can see the works of the four young hopefuls competing for the annual Turner Prize. And at the newly reopened Imperial War Museum we have Truth and Memory: British Art of the First World War. This very moving exhibition brings together many artists of the period. Unlike depictions of previous conflicts, WWI art was made by the soldiers themselves, giving the paintings a compelling vividness and immediacy.
Autumn Colour
If you are looking for more than the many green spaces of London can provide, a visit to the Westonbirt Arboretum never disappoints. This internationally renowned tree collection looks its best when the leaves change colour in Autumn. In Gloucester, near Tetbury, combine with a relaxing day or two of antiquing in the area. Prince Charles’ superb garden at nearby Highgrove can be visited by appointment, too (make bookings here).
Art and Nature – Two Forms of Inspiration
The After Matisse rug, one of my first rug designs, was inspired by the cut-out works by the great artist, while my most recent designs, Rectangles and Aqua Teal Sea was designed to bring the tranquil colours and movement of the sea from summer travels into the home as a reminder of those wonderful times.
