We are very excited to begin stocking these incredible acrylic sculptures by Phillip Low in our London showroom. These colourful pieces reflect the light through them in different ways depending on which way you position them, creating beautiful refractions of light from any angle.
The Story of Phillip Low
The New York based artist grew up in Vancouver, graduated from Central Saint Martins in London, then worked in Holland as a stylist. Returning to North America, he apprenticed with the legendary Geoffrey Beene, before becoming creative director at the seminal design shop Troy. His design background is evident in the sleek, crisp outlines and the bold, block colours used to create his sculptures.
Why we love them
Some of our rug designs such as After Albers, Magic Stepping Stones and After Matisse (to name a few) have the same dynamic angles and layering of colours. These designs play with the notion of the transparency of colour, and how the colours interact to create new colours when layered on top of one another. This is why these sculptures are the perfect pairing, as they recreate this process in a totally new medium, with very similar and complementary effects. Phillip Low’s work is the perfect companion to one of our rugs.
How to use them to uplift your interior
If you opt for a neutral colour palette in your walls and floor, then you can easily introduce bright splashes of colour with accessories. Our rugs are not just soft furnishings, but pieces of art in their own right. This is why we love it when we find other pieces of artwork that we connect to, so that we can create beautifully curated spaces. Introducing objects like these that have bold colours and play with light, will create a vibrant and dynamic energy to your space.
