Sonya Winner, the renowned British rug designer, has joined forces with visionary New York illustrator Jade Purple Brown to bring to life the Wave rug. The two highly creative designers who share a deep passion for bold graphic shapes and vibrant colour has led to the creation of a truly special design which is full of energy and happiness.

Jade Purple Brown’s artwork celebrates the power of femininity, strength, and individuality, drawing inspiration from the world around her and taking design cues from the iconic 1970s era. It was a simple message on Instagram that sparked the transatlantic design collaboration that would result in an innovative and exciting partnership.

Sonya and Jade set out to create a rug that would inject any room with excitement, vibrancy, and joy through a daring combination of colour and fluid lines, influenced by Purple Brown’s 1970s graphic style. Combining Purple Brown’s signature curvaceous aesthetic, Sonya Winner refined the design, adding her own personal handwriting which is evident through the bold use of colour and expertly blended tones to create a rug which exudes a playful character.

The Wave Rug is more than just a functional home accessory; it’s a hand-woven piece of art that stands out for its artistic sensibilities, showcasing the modernisation of an age-old industry through its ambitious and unique design. Produced by skilled GoodWeave weavers, the production process follows traditional and sustainable methods, utilising solar energy, onsite yarn dying using local wood, sun drying yarn, recycling excess dyed wool, and ensuring safe working conditions and fair wages through GoodWeave’s auditing process.
